Comment on Univ. of Tampa fights losing battle over recognition of Jewish fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) by Brittany

ZBT is still considered a "Jewish Fraternity". While they are accepting to other religions, they still harbor the religion in many of their activities, philanthropies, and actions.

As a previous Jewish University of Tampa student, and a sweetheart of a Zeta Beta Tau chapter at another school in Florida (I transferred), I can understand the struggle placed on Jewish students at this school. I also understand the struggle that this school has with Greek life in general.

I feel that they may be restricting Greek life, and it just so happens that both organizations attempting to start up this year are both Jewish organizations. As mentioned in the article, the population is lacking, a mere 5%. 350 Jewish students at UT would leave 175 male (if split evenly).

This gives AEPi quite a downfall when it comes to numbers, as they prefer to only actively recruit Jewish students, but they had mad a great effort toward getting started.

Any organization that does things incorrectly will be frowned upon at first, possibly "banned" indefinitely, but as new students make a case to new administration down the road, old issues are forgotten, and new chances are given. For now, the Jewish population will have to look to the other organization, Zeta Beta Tau, to promote Jewish Greek Life on campus, and hopefully pave a smooth road for other Jewish organizations in the future.

I totally agree with you about Nancy Grace.

She speaks like the prosecutor she WAS. A failed one at that! Prosecutor's rarely admit once they have decided on a suspect that they were wrong even with DNA evidence or other proof that their suspect did not do it.

Nancy's claim to fame while a prosecutor in Atlanta was two specific cases that were overturned as a direct result of prosecutorial misconduct. One case was was declared a mistrial after Grace “exceeded the wide latitude of closing argument” ; in another case evidence led to another previous conviction being overturned, and Grace was cited for misconduct which included: 1) Having knowledge of subpoenas with incorrect dates, 2) Presenting a chart in closing arguments with false statements from the defense expert, 3) Vouching for the case by telling jurors she believed the defendant was guilty, and 4) Performing two illegal searches of the defendant’s house, and bringing a CNN camera crew along to document one of them.

This is why she has no morals when it comes to deciding someone is GUILTY of a crime before there has even been a trial. She is truly a horrible person.

ZBT is no longer a Jewish fraternity. They were the first Jewish fraternity founded in 1898. According to ZBT.org there mission statement says "Mindful of its founding in 1898 as the Nation's first Jewish Fraternity, ZBT will preserve and cultivate its relationships within the Jewish community. Since 1954, ZBT has been committed to its policy of non-sectarian Brotherhood, and values the diversity of its membership. ZBT will recruit and initiate men of good character, regardless of religion, race or creed who are accepting of these principles."
So UT can't seem " to jewish" when AEPI would be the only jewish fraternity.

I agree with the author and oddly enough I am also an AEPi alum of NYU. I have some inside knowledge as I spoke with the National staff person who was quoted in the article and it seems that AEPi failed to jump through all of UT's hoops for recognition in the exact right timetable. The fraternity admitted its mistakes and asked how to fix things but were told they'd never be allowed to exist on campus. The university will undoubtedly lose this PR battle and I hope the ADL gets involved.
